Where It Started
My name is Jonathan. I've spent over a decade inside nonprofit organizations — not consulting from the outside, but sitting with people in crisis, coordinating services on the ground, and building the budgets, proposals, and compliance systems that keep missions funded. I know what this work looks like from both sides of the table.
I started in community outreach at NJCDC in Paterson, New Jersey one of the most under-resourced cities in the country. For ten years I learned what it actually means to serve people in crisis. I wrote grant reports, managed funder relationships, worked with the Bank of America Foundation, and supervised AmeriCorps VISTA members. I wasn't just adjacent to the work, I was in it.
Building the Foundation
From there I moved into data and compliance at Brevard Homeless Coalition, where I became HMIS Lead Administrator managing federal reporting, HUD compliance, and training 20+ agencies across the continuum of care. I learned that good data tells a story just as powerfully as good writing. The two are inseparable when it comes to making a compelling case to funders.
Where I Am Now
Today I serve as Director of Development at a Vero Beach nonprofit overseeing a $2.1M annual development budget, managing the full grant lifecycle from prospecting through reporting, and building the systems that make sustainable fundraising possible. I bring that same level of operational depth to every client engagement through Tellinghouse.
